Please tell us more about your background and how you began creating art?

I always loved to draw. Maybe it’s a heritage from my parents, as my father could paint beautiful flowers (once he was suggested to be a painter in his home Church) and my mother could make clay figures very skilfully. Even in my childhood I always loved to visit the Hungarian National Gallery and the Museum of Fine Arts in Budapest, where I could admire the greatest Hungarian and international artists. Life made me graduate as a journalist. As the Editor in Chief of our national airlines and later as Regional Director of Scandinavia and the Baltic States with the Hungarian Tourism I could travel a lot that inspired me to paint what caught my attention.

What does your art aim to say to the viewers?

Nature of our Earth is wonderful, that we have to preserve for the future generations, as well. Capturing one moment of this beauty by oil on canvas is my main task.

Do you have an essential philosophy that guides you in your creative expression?

I try to express my internal feelings, find the best way to show on canvas what I see or think.

What art marketing activity do you put into practice regularly that works most successfully for you?

I simply accept those invitations I receive. They are arriving mainly from art curators of different exhibitions, gallery owners, from those who have viewed my paintings, heard about me or saw my web site, and I feel they have marketing value in connection of my art.

Can you tell us about the process of creating your work? What is your daily routine when working?

If a subject attracts my interest or a beautiful landscape catches my eye, I feel the need to paint it. They mature in my head for a day following to which I prepare the canvas, the paints, and start immediately painting. A picture is usually ready in a few hours. I sign and let it dry. After a week or two, it happens to me that I will improve it or change some details. If I'm not satisfied, I paint a new picture instead.

How much planning goes into each artwork?

It depends on. I love to paint landscapes, water surfaces, rivers and seas, the planning of them takes a short time. But after reading a novel it takes longer time to pick up the most important details of it and plan the place of these details on the canvas in my mind (see: Love in the time of Cholera, Kalevala or Anna Karenina).

What’s the essential element in your art?

The most important for me is that nobody has to explain for the viewer what can be seen on the canvas. If you look at it, you know what you see, it should be self-evident.

In your opinion, what role does the artist have in society?

If an artist creates something that adds value to art, s/he enriches society. We can do a lot to protect nature and peace, show the values of our past and history, draw attention to what is important in our present and for future generation.

Are there any projects you are currently working on and able to speak about?

Yes. I read a Hungarian Art Call for Tenders, according to which the figure of Saint Joseph must be depicted in a painting. I just started thinking about this...
