Susan Lynda Taylor

Biography

Susan is a self taught artist who lives in the UK., she did not have the opportunity to properly paint until she was in her sixties having had four children and helped and supported her husband in his business. One of her children was seriously ill during this time and she devoted herself to helping her recover for approx 5 years. Now aged 75 and having had major surgery she is continuing on her journey, exploring her feelings, thoughts and beliefs and laying them down on canvas.

On one occasion early in her journey she prayed before starting a small canvas that she would be inspired to paint whatever was Gods guidance. She simply choose two colours- quite bland and neutral and one side of the canvas she painted one colour and the other side the other. Susan tells how she made no conscious attempt or contrive to create. She then simply painted lines up and down the canvas. When the painting was dry she was amazed and excited at what she saw before her. This small canvas hangs on the outside of her studio door.

Susan is inspired by her strong beliefs and by the beauty of nature which surrounds us and loves Art in its many forms. She believes we should take care of our planet and each other. Susan’s quote for this very busy world we now live in:

' Never forget to look at the Dew on the Grass'

Susan explains how she believes colour affect our feelings and mood and has the ability to lift us she wants to look at something, not just glance but go back again and again and see new things.

Art, Susan believes is a special link between heart, body and mind + brush, palette knife, paint canvas. Just the same as cooking except it comprises of ingredients, utensils.

Creating whether it be paintings or cooking - using all of our senses, caring sharing and responding, bringing it altogether and sharing with one another leaving a particle of ourselves in the hearts of others.

Art, Susan goes on to say brings an unexplainable response when mind meets canvas and paint becomes involved.

Her biggest joy is when someone has such an emotional response that it is like an electrical current between someone and the painting. It is so moving.

Susan paints mainly in acrylic and mixed media but loves experimenting with texture and other mediums, sometimes using things she finds in nature. She also has a fascination with fossils and the prehistoric world and creates highly textured fossil paintings - such as ammonites and fossil fish and was commissioned to paint a fossil fish on black slate which was then plastered into an entrance porch above a door.

Susan was approached by a New York Composer who saw one of her paintings which he said inspired him. The painting then went on to be streamed at one of his performances in Times Square. Susan says she has had some truly wonderful experiences that she would not have had had she not started her painting journey.

Susan Lynda Taylor has exhibited in Norwich, London, Cambridge in the UK. Has sold at exhibitions and Galleries. Also exhibited in Vienna - Munich and Castle Heidenreichstein and was featured in UK Portrait Artist of the Year online

Artist Statement

I love colour and texture and the exploration of many types of medias. I paint abstract mainly but also landscape and fossil art which is highly textured. I am inspired by nature and unleash my inner spiritual being and try to manifest the essence onto canvas.

Our planet is evolving rapidly and I find painting an escape for a short while as time stands still and I can leave the worries and stress behind and become absorbed in a world of my making where there is love caring and comfort.

I love the process of connecting and communicating with people and the emotions that art unlocks bringing often comfort and tranquility and a sense of ease and solace into their lives which makes me very happy.
