Biography

Canadian sculptor Tom Ashbourne creates magnificent sculptures in stone, bronze, and mixed media, uniting timeless elegance with contemporary abstraction. Guided by an innate curiosity and a remarkable ability to think in three dimensions, he transforms raw materials into art works rich in energy, movement, and emotional resonance. Through a sophisticated exploration of form, texture, and space, Ashbourne’s sculptures engage the senses and invite a deeply personal interpretation.

Following a successful career as a corporate executive, Ashbourne transformed himself and a lifelong passion for art into an internationally recognized sculptural practice. An Elected Member of Society of Canadian Artists (SCA), Ontario Society of Artists (OSA), and Sculptors Society of Canada (SSC), Ashbourne is also recognized as a Master Sculptor by the National Sculptors' Society (USA).

Ashbourne’s sculptures have attracted international acclaim, winning prestigious awards and worldwide recognition in prominent art publications. He supports advancement of the arts as a Juror for Society of Canadian Artists, Ontario Society of Artists, and City of Pickering Public Art.

Artist Statement

Art is a lifelong passion and source of joy.. Continually inspired by how art creates meaningful connections, I’m delighted when my sculptures resonate with collectors, art lovers, jurors, and my peers.

I naturally think in three dimensions, a rare but essential gift for a sculptor. A lifelong art collector and patron has refined my artistic eye for balance, form, texture, and colour. Drawing on strengths that defined my success as a corporate executive into my creative process - analytical thinking, curiosity, attentive listening - I discover unexpected relationships between materials and ideas.

Sculpting is a journey of transformation. Working in stone, bronze, or mixed media, I’m fascinated by the process of revealing expressive forms from raw materials. Each sculpture emerges during solitary conversations between intuition and intention, discipline, and spontaneity. The interplay of positive and negative space, texture and form imbues my sculptures with energy, movement, and inclusiveness.

Great art does more than attract attention. It evokes emotion, invites contemplation, and creates a personal connection. Through my sculptures, I aspire to gently touch your emotions and leave a lasting, positive impression.
