Artist Statement
Gordon’s artistic practice encompasses painting, drawing, photography, photographic collage, and ceramics. Her subjects include humanity’s relationship with nature, interpersonal relationships, childhood, portraiture, and much more.
Lidia Barbara Gordon is a pioneer in exhibitions exploring the theme of “Children in Art.” Her primary aim is to understand the child as a subject and to reveal childhood itself. Gordon seeks to portray children as they truly are, capturing their joy and spontaneity, originality, contentment, and seriousness.
Gordon’s paintings are distinguished by a rich color palette, freely imagined forms of figures and plants, and creative patterns. She depicts the real world against a subtle sense of foreboding that reality is neither permanent nor enduring, but transient. Through imaginative forms and a vibrant color palette, flowers rarely found in nature acquire a remarkable vitality and sense of realism.
