Artist Statement
I look at cities and towns like a big, silent movie set, and we're just moving through the scene waiting for it to end. Most of my work, whether it's candid street shots or putting the pieces together in a digital collage, starts with a distraction. I’ll be driving or simply walking, and a shadow hits a concrete wall at an odd angle, or someone stands just a little too still in a crowd, and that’s when I lock in.
I'm drawn to heavy contrast and deep shadows, that gritty, raw, film look, because it cuts out the noise of what’s going on in our world and focuses on the event actually happening.
It forces you to look at the geometry or the cultural significance. Cities and towns can be built on these unforgiving patriarchal lines, but culture happens in the messy gaps between them. People can be either isolated, grouped together, collaborating, or just trying to navigate the scale of the world we're living in.
