Biography

Simone Campos (Curitiba, PR) is a Brazilian visual artist who holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts from the School of Music and Fine Arts of Paraná, Brazil (EMBAP, 1986). She began her career at age 18, when she was discovered by Galeria Acaiaca in Curitiba, subsequently exhibiting in various Brazilian cities.

She furthered her training in Europe, studying painting and drawing at the Scuola Lorenzo de’ Medici (Florence, Italy, 1986) and art and restoration techniques at the Istituto per l’Arte e il Restauro “Palazzo Spinelli” (Florence, 1988). This combination of technical mastery and artistic expression defines her production, which unites tradition and contemporaneity.

Her work has gained national and international recognition, with exhibitions in Brazil, China, Portugal, Malaysia, Germany, France, Italy, Spain, Austria, and other countries.

Current Series: “New Marie Antoinette”

Since 2024, Simone Campos has focused her production on the series “New Marie Antoinette”, first presented at Art Innsbruck and since then shown at international fairs and galleries. The series symbolizes spiritual freedom, establishing a contemporary parallel between pleasure and luxury in the “parallel worlds” of yesterday and today. Through this language, the artist encourages reflection on behaviors and excesses that, over 200 years ago, culminated in tragedy but which today are often normalized.

Artist Statement

Simone Campos' current series of paintings, based on her own idea, exclusively paints her New Marie Antoinette paintings, which were successfully presented for the first time at Art Innsbruck in 2024 and have since been on display at international art fairs and galleries.

Marie Antoinette, *02/11/1755 in Vienna and †16/10/1793 in Paris. Executed by guillotine at the insistence of the people. The painting series “New Marie Antoinette” symbolizes intellectual freedom, as a contemporary comparison between pleasure and luxury in the parallel worlds of then and now, which is intended to artfully stimulate reflection: about what ended fatally over 200 years ago and is now almost considered normal.
