Toti Cuesta
Biography
Toti Cuesta is an award-winning Spanish watercolor artist based in Madrid. Her work explores the relationship among humanity, nature, and the urban landscape through a symbolic visual language that combines hyperrealistic watercolor with contemporary symbolism.
After a career in international law, she turned to art in search of purpose and fulfillment. Her artistic process is deeply intuitive and spiritual, allowing symbols, colors, and forms to emerge as a visual language through which the work expresses itself.
The female figure is central to her watercolors, often merging with trees, landscapes, and other natural elements to explore identity, transformation, and the profound connection between human life and the natural world.
A trained Art Therapist, Toti believes in art's ability to awaken awareness, inspire reflection, and strengthen our connection with nature. Her work has been exhibited internationally, from New York to Venice, and has received awards and recognition from art organizations worldwide.
Artist Statement
My work explores the relationship between the human figure and nature through a symbolic visual language developed in watercolor. In the Tree Woman series, the body merges with roots, branches, and organic forms that symbolize growth, transformation, and connection to the Earth.
The female figures appear united with the natural environment until they become part of it. Tree, face, and landscape share the same visual space, in which nature and human beings are no longer shown as separate elements. Through these images, I present a more connected and conscious way of perceiving reality.
Symbols, colors, and forms become the visual language through which the work expresses itself. I create images that remain open to interpretation, where emotion, intuition, and contemplation have room within the work.
Watercolor is essential to my creative process for its transparency, fluidity, and ability to generate living, changing forms. I work from intuition, allowing the image to evolve organically as connections between the human figure and nature appear.
Each piece is born as a space of union between body, landscape, and awareness.
