A Life Shaped by Art.
Dr. Harpal Sodhi is a contemporary artist whose creative journey has evolved over more than five decades. For Dr. Sodhi, art is not simply an object to be viewed. It is a language through which emotions, experiences, dreams, and spiritual ideas can be expressed without words. Her paintings invite viewers to look beyond the visible and discover their own feelings and interpretations within the work. Her artistic philosophy is : “Art connects people across cultures, generations, languages, and geographical boundaries”.
Mystical Art.
One of the most distinctive aspects of Dr. Sodhi's artistic identity is her exploration of Mystical Art. Her mystical paintings bring together abstraction, symbolism, imagination, vibrant color, and spiritual awareness. The forms and figures have flowing colors that evoke energy and movement and the mystical abstract forms take birth from the subconscious mind.. Her paintings often encourage viewers to slow down and experience the work emotionally rather than searching for one fixed meaning. Each viewer may discover something different—a landscape, a memory, a spiritual presence, a dream, or simply a feeling.
Inspired by Nature and the Universe.
Nature has remained one of Dr. Sodhi's enduring sources of inspiration. The changing moods and colors of the sky, clouds, oceans, landscapes, flowers, birds, animals, and all living creatures and nonliving things frequently find their way into her artistic imagination. The result is that the art moves between the recognizable and the abstract, the earthly and the spiritual, the personal and the universal.

Art That Travels.
A particularly important development in Dr. Sodhi's recent career has been her association with Artwork On-Wheels, an art gallery established in 2024 by Gunwant Sodhi.
The gallery was created with the vision of bringing art to different communities and locations rather than limiting exhibitions to one permanent space. Through Artwork On-Wheels, Dr. Sodhi's work and the work of other artists have been presented at exhibitions and art fairs in different parts of the United States.
The Scholar Behind the Artist.
Dr. Sodhi's artistic practice is supported by an academic and research background in fine art. She holds a PhD in Fine Art, with research focusing on the drawings and paintings of **Pablo Picasso and MF Husain”. Her scholarly interest has strengthened her understanding of artistic language, creativity, abstraction, and the evolution of modern art. She has also explored the work of other important artists and has shared her knowledge through writing, education, workshops, lectures, and art-appreciation activities.
Art, Education and Community.
Her contribution to art extends beyond her own studio. Dr. Sodhi has participated in educational cultural programs, and art appreciation, community-based art activities, volunteered in Edison Museum New Jersey and in NACC Niagara Falls, NY.
Art Timeless.
Dr. Sodhi's creative journey has also found expression in her books. Her “Art Timeless” series documents her artistic development and brings together paintings from different periods of her life. Art Timeless, Series 1: Dr. HS Artwork 1972 to 2026, is particularly meaningful because it presents more than five decades of artistic exploration. The paintings can be viewed not only as individual works but also as fragments of a visual autobiography—records of experiences, memories, emotions, observations, and changing artistic ideas. Her writing of articles and books extend beyond art criticism and scholarship into subjects connected with photography, creativity, spirituality, nature, culture, and personal experience. Her authored books of 99 designs, Flowers series, Bubbly picture books and many other books contribute to her achievements.
A Continuing Creative Journey.
Perhaps the most remarkable quality of Dr. Sodhi's career is its continuity at late age. She has continued to create artwork, exhibit, write, teach, research, and experiment across generations and geographical boundaries. Her art has never been confined to one style or subject. Instead, it has developed new styles and techniques through experience and innovation. Her earlier works, later paintings, mystical compositions, nature-inspired imagery, and abstract experiments together reveal an artist continually searching for new ways to express what cannot always be said in words.
Dr. Harpal Sodhi, considers art as a journey rather than a destination. It is a way of remembering, discovering, questioning, dreaming, and communicating. Her paintings transform experiences into color and observations into visual poetry. Her art is a celebration of color, nature, imagination, spirituality, and the enduring human desire to create. In Dr. Harpal Sodhi's world, art remains timeless—not because it stands still, but because it continues to change, inspire, and reveal something new with every viewing. After more than five decades of artistic activity, Dr. Sodhi continues to paint and explore new creative possibilities.
Artist Statement
"Visual art has always been a silent Global language that is understood by art lovers and gives a soothing sensation to everyone. My journey as an artist started in 1972 when I was an art student and won an award in an art competition / exhibition. The multidimensional Contemporary Art has given me an opportunity to pioneer “Mystical Art” which is my style and technique of creating paintings. The word Mystical depicts, the magical and the spiritual subconscious aspect of the artwork. I also create paintings in realism and abstract with innovative techniques. The unique forms and colors emit vibrations of positive energy.
However, the discernment of the works of art, lies in the eyes of the beholder" Dr. HS.
