Biography

Odilia Iaccarino is a contemporary, self-taught painter whose expressive works merge cultural heritage with boundary-pushing artistic innovation. Born of Mexican descent, Iaccarino operates from her studio within the historic Cotton Mill in the McKinney, Texas Arts District. Her practice is defined by a fearless, intuitive approach to materiality, working primarily with oil pastels, acrylics, and elements like gold leaf, crystals and graphite to construct deeply layered tactile surfaces. By bypassing traditional academic constraints, she has developed a singular visual language that explores the intersections of nature, memory, and raw human emotion.

Iaccarino’s dynamic career has earned her widespread acclaim across national and international art markets. Her exhibition history reflects a global footprint, highlighted most recently by prestigious 2026 presentations at The Curators Gallery in Paris, France, and NorthPark Center in Dallas, Texas. Her ability to navigate both classical and digital realms was notably demonstrated in Milan, Italy, where she debuted her first metaverse and mixed-reality experience led by M.A.D.S. Gallery. Additionally, her work has been curated into major institutional spaces, including the Albuquerque Museum of Art and History, the Brownsville Fine Arts Museum, and prominent showcases at Art Expo Santa Fe.

The international art community has repeatedly recognized Iaccarino’s visionary contributions with top honors. She is the recipient of the Lelie Art Award in Amsterdam and was named International Artist at the Contemporary Art Fair Milano. Domestically, she won First Place at the Brownsville Museum of Fine Arts, alongside distinctions from the Mundial de Artistas Integrados and the Federación de Gestores Culturales. Celebrating her deep regional roots, her critically acclaimed Natural Wonders collection swept both first and second place positions for the People’s Choice Award from the Arts Association of Plano.

Artist Statement

"For the past few years, I have been completely captivated by Diego Velázquez’s classic masterpiece, Las Meninas. It has become my true muse. The spark caught fire during a trip to Madrid, Spain. I remember standing in front of that massive canvas in the museum and feeling this sudden, overwhelming connection to the artist and the world he painted. It was a profound moment that left me with a deep, urgent need to capture that exact feeling in my own work. Walking out into the city, I fell in love all over again when I saw the giant, life-size Menina sculptures decorating the streets. Learning their history—that these 'maids of honor' were noble-born girls sent to live and serve in the royal palace—made me realize just how deeply they are woven into the heart of Spanish culture.

When I returned to my studio, I set out on a personal journey to create my own version of Las Meninas. I began by drawing a simple, modern silhouette of the Menina figure. As I layered the canvas with vibrant acrylics, rich oil pastels, and graphite lines, the process brought back all the beautiful emotions of the days I spent wandering through Madrid. For me, the real joy and challenge is playing with the balance of these materials on the canvas. I love pushing the boundaries by mixing organic elements right into the paint, which gives the figures a sculptural, three-dimensional depth you can almost feel. Ultimately, this series is about growth. My dream for these paintings is that they spark curiosity and inspire people—especially the younger generation—to open their minds, think big, and grow beyond their current boundaries."
